HMS invited to Ambulex exhibition by Panasonic

Hampshire Medical Services has been invited to attend the Ambulex Exhibition on the 7th and 8th September as guests of Panasonic.

Our team will be present throughout the two-day event in Peterborough’s Exec Exhibition Centre to demonstrate how its software applications can be utilised in Panasonic devices. If you are a medical professional (the exhibition is not open to the general public) and you would like to find out more about our products and services we would welcome to opportunity to speak with you in person.

The Ambulex Exhibition is the perfect fit for HMS to demonstrate its product capabilities, because it is the only UK exhibition exclusively targeting ambulances, ambulance support vehicles and related equipment. Delegates tend to be public and private ambulance fleet managers, or senior NHS Trust managers. Representatives are also expected from the emergency services and the military. There is usually a strong international contingent too.

The exhibition is open from 9.30am – 5.30pm on 7th September, and from 9am – 4pm on 8th September. Visitor registration can be completed online: http://www.ambulex.com/reg2.php. Do come and see us if you attend: we’d love to meet you.

Unison opposes GP consortia plans

In what has been called the biggest Health Service revolution since the NHS was formed in 1948, the coalition government plans to abolish the 152 Primary Care Trusts in England and hand their functions over to consortia of GPs. However, the move has prompted a legal challenge from Unison (which is the UK's largest public service union) because the public was not consulted about whether it wanted the change.

Karen Jennings, Unison head of health, said: "The White Paper contains sweeping changes to the NHS and how it should be run… The Department of Health's refusal to recognise this clear and important legal duty [to consult the public] leaves us no option but to issue legal proceedings as a matter of urgency."

Under the new plans, family doctors – grouped into about 500 organisations – will, from 2011, assume responsibility for £70 billion of the £105 billion total healthcare budget for England. The 10 regional Strategic Health Authorities have also been earmarked for closure. Health Secretary Andrew Lansley claims this will reduce management costs by 45%.

The white paper proposes that GP consortia will start taking over the management of the NHS budget for mental health, hospital and community services in 2012, with full financial responsibility in place by 2013.

Proposals to allow the GP consortia to buy in expert help – including from former managers of PCTs – have led some critics to question whether the change will actually save any money.
